Ramatuelle is a small village nestled in the heart of the wooded peninsula of Saint-Tropez. If you haven't heard of it, it's because it has always lived in the shadow of this famous tourist destination. However, Ramatuelle is a true paradise with many pleasures. Built on hillsides covered in centuries-old pine trees, it offers an exceptional panorama overlooking the bay of Pampelonne. It has also inherited a ubiquitous nature and several isolated fine sandy beaches that make it a place of absolute relaxation. One cannot resist the urge to escape there to enjoy the sun and the sea. Discover without further ado our selection of the best private beaches in Ramatuelle and the activities to do there to make your vacation unforgettable!
Ramatuelle boasts some of the most beautiful private beaches in Saint-Tropez where you can fully enjoy the blue waters of the Mediterranean. Here are the best of them:
Located on the Route de l'Epi, Nikki Beach is one of the most prestigious beaches in Ramatuelle. Its carefully crafted setting makes you want to "celebrate life." The owners have even made it the slogan of the establishment, which is impeccably elegant. It is dressed all in white, punctuated with palm trees and raw wood from the restaurant to the relaxation area where beds and sun loungers await you. They are an ode to idleness on the edge of the sea or around the restaurant's pool. This luxurious atmosphere is reflected in the cuisine, where the chef creates a refined and international menu where you can easily switch from sushi or meat to a completely vegan dish. Beyond the setting and cuisine, Nikki Beach is chosen above all for its lively atmosphere with the sound of the greatest DJs from morning to night. It makes you want to replace fresh fruit juice with a good cocktail to raise the temperature!
La Bagatelle is a private beach where the good meets the beautiful. On site, a always smiling team welcomes you in a refined setting with Mediterranean accents where you can dine and relax carefree. For this, you have the choice between tables inside the restaurant or 200 shaded sun loungers arranged on the seafront. For those who want more privacy, La Bagatelle also offers a private section equipped with double beds, toilets, a cabin and a very beautiful table in the sand. On the newly created menu, the chef offers cuisine with typically Mediterranean flavors, between land and sea. His suggestions: marinated sea bream ceviche in eucalyptus oil and organic farm-raised chicken with tarragon cooked in a salt crust with Provencal herbs.
Located on Boulevard Patch, on the Pampelonne Beach, Byblos is an extension of the 5-star Byblos Hotel in Saint-Tropez. Naturally, this beach is just as elegant with a relaxed atmosphere, thanks to its contemporary decor inspired by the marine world and nature. You'll notice it in its woven wicker parasols and its raw wood terrace covered with sunshades reminiscent of the sails of the boats on the coast. All the on-site facilities have been made with respect for the environment, enough to put environmentalists in a good mood. As for the restaurant, the chef offers a light menu prepared with exceptional products. They are to be enjoyed without moderation with a fresh fruit cocktail or a "made-to-measure" creation by the bartender.
Set in a sumptuous and exotic setting, Tiki Beach is a private beach with a rather family-friendly atmosphere. It's the address not to be missed for privileged moments with children, as a couple or with friends during the holidays. It has a terrace with several tables for dining as well as garden lounges and shaded sun loungers to relax with your feet in the sand, facing the magnificent Pampelonne beach. After a few hours perfecting your tan on the beach, open the doors of its restaurant and bar to taste refined traditional dishes accompanied by a refreshing cocktail.
You cannot miss Saint-Tropez during your stay in Ramatuelle. The two villages are practically stuck together. Numerous activities ranging from luxury to simplicity await you, such as having a coffee on the terrace of Sénéquier, tasting the Tarte Tropézienne or shopping at the Place des Lices market. You can also plan a walk on the old port and in the old village, where you will come across the most beautiful monuments of the city. Note that the Citadel and its Maritime History Museum are worth a visit, not to mention the Saint-Tropez lighthouse, which watches over the Gulf, where yachts and sailboats slumber. Take advantage of the opportunity to admire the breathtaking view of the sea!
Feeling like stretching your legs? Explore the Ramatuelle coastline, which offers a 15-kilometer trail to discover the most beautiful landscapes of the Côte d'Azur. The paths are well maintained and easily accessible to allow both young and old to travel them safely. However, remember to put on a pair of sneakers and a hat to optimize your protection. For this activity, you have several route options:
- Either you start from Pampelonne Bay to Anse de Bonne Terrasse;
- Or you begin at Anse de Bonne Terrasse to Cap Camarat.
You can also start your journey at Cap Camarat and end at Plage de l'Escalet.
Between Ramatuelle and wine, there is a longstanding history. You will notice that the landscape of the village is shaped by vineyards, beautifully highlighted. During your visit, do not miss the chance to visit one of its wineries to taste its wines and witness their winemaking process through a guided tour.
Nestled in the heart of nature on the Paillas hill, the village of Ramatuelle invites you to forget about the glamorous and "celebrity" side of Saint-Tropez. It immerses you in a medieval atmosphere with its cobbled streets and historical remains, including the Sarrasine Gate and its watchtower, as well as the 16th-century Sainte-Anne chapel. Beyond these buildings, the village also offers many places to visit such as art galleries and various shops where you can stock up on souvenirs to take home (local products, jewelry, and antiques). At noon, push the doors of its restaurants for a gourmet stopover (L'Atelier de la Forge is among the must-try).
Between the 16th and 19th centuries, 5 windmills were built in Ramatuelle to allow the village to produce its own flour. Today, only one of them still operates after being rebuilt identically in 2002. It is equipped with a mechanism entirely made of wood and a millstone used to grind wheat. Thanks to the association "Les amis des moulins de Ramatuelle," you can visit it for free during your visit, along with the other 4 windmills, although they are now only ruins.
If Pampelonne Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Saint-Tropez and is classified as a "remarkable natural area," it is not by chance. It stretches for 4.5 kilometers of white sand, bordered by lush vegetation and turquoise sea, ideal for swimming and water activities. It is no wonder that many establishments have chosen it to set up their restaurant, bar, and beach club to allow you to enjoy the joys of the beach during your vacation.
